Calvary Compass – February 21, 2024 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca

Dear Friends of Calvary,

Hopefully everyone had a nice Family Day and were able to enjoy the cold, but sunny day with family or friends.

On Sunday, Rev. Kerry provided us with a Lent Calendar to follow for our Lenten journey. Hopefully you will read it and try to do what is asked for on certain days. It will make you more aware of this Lenten Season. There will be extra copies at the back of the sanctuary for those who did not get one on Sunday.

Kim Knowles has compiled the Annual Report. It will soon be available for everyone either through an email attachment or a printed copy. If you wish a printed copy, please let Kim know so that she can reserve you one. The Annual Meeting is Sunday, March 3rd after the Worship Service. It will be both in-person and on Zoom. Further information will be sent out in regards to voting via Zoom.

The due date for submitting your cheques to renew or start your subscription for Broadview Magazine is March 1st. Make your cheque out to Calvary United Church with Broadview in the memo line.

There will be a Coffee Hour in the Lower Hall after the worship service this Sunday. Members of the Affirming Committee will be there if you have any questions regarding Affirming.

Worship Services are all live-streamed:

February 25th - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikHMtn51Sv8

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER - FRIDAY MARCH 1ST

The World Day of Prayer is Friday, March 1, 2024. The theme this year is “I Beg You … Bear With One Another In Love” based on Ephesians 4: 1-3 and it was written by Christian women in Palestine. World Day of Prayer is an international, inter-church event that began around 100 years ago bridging social, geographic, and political barriers in 146 countries. Together they pursue justice, peace, and reconciliation by standing together in prayer and action. In Canada, the World Day of Prayer (WDP) is coordinated by the Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada (WICC), one of the original founders of this prayer movement.

Offerings received through the World Day of Prayer transform our prayers into action in the form of project grants empowering women and children in Canada and throughout the world. All regions share in the grants, with consideration given to greatest need. The vision is to restore hope to women and children touched by injustice. Mailing address: WICC, World Day of Prayer, 47 Queen’s Park Cres E., Toronto, ON M5S 2C3.

The Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada (WICC) invites you, your friends and family to watch a fifty-five-minute WDP service video that features participants from across Canada. This video is available on wicc.org.

AFFIRMING

The vote to decide if Calvary becomes an Affirming Church is Sunday, March 24th after the Worship Service. A short document will be sent out the week of March 11th for you to read to understand what Affirming is and about the voting. In preparation for this, the following are two questions for you to ponder. You can either just ponder them or write out your thoughts and drop them in the boxes at the back of the sanctuary or by the parking lot door for the Affirming Committee to see. You don't have to include your name if you do not wish to.

1. What do you celebrate about becoming Affirming?

2. What are your concerns about becoming Affirming?

All of you who revere the Lord --- praise him!

All of you are Abraham's descendants ---honour him!

I offer praise in the great congregation
