Calvary Compass – March 26, 2024 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca

Dear Friends of Calvary,

 Thank you to all who attended the Congregational Meeting on becoming an Affirm United congregation of the United Church of Canada. After the scrutineers had counted the secret ballots and Kim Knowles added the results from the secret polling on Zoom, the results were that 84% voted for Calvary United to become an Affirming Church. Affirm United has been contacted to let them know the vote results. As mentioned in the short document, any changes that are made at Calvary will be discussed and decided by Calvary Council, not Affirm United.

 The church office will be closed this Friday and next Monday and Tuesday. Nancy Hind will check for phone messages and any mail. The next Compass will be Wednesday, April 3rd.

 The  Lenten Project for this year is to support the purchase of a commercial washing machine for the Men's Mission. As you can imagine, this machine is used regularly for a variety of items including men's clothing. If you are able to donate, please make your cheque out to Calvary United Church and put Lenten Project in the memo line. There are envelopes at the back of the sanctuary to put your cheque in.

PSALMS FOR THIS WEEK

Psalm 118: 22 -24; 26; 27; (New Revised Standard Bible Translation)

            I thank you that you have answered me

                and have become my salvation.

            The stone that the builders rejected

                has become the chief cornerstone.

            This is the Lord's doing;

                It is marvelous in our eyes.

            This is the day that the Lord has made;

                let us rejoice and be glad in it.

            Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.

                We bless you from the house of the Lord.

            The Lord is God,

                and he has given us light.

Psalm 36: 5 -9 (New International Bible Translation)

            Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,

                your faithfulness to the skies.

            Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,

                your justice like the great deep.

                You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.

            How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!

                People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

            They feast on the abundance of your house;

                you give them drink from your river of delights.

            For with you is the fountain of life;

                in your light we see light.

.

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK

Gracious God,

Your son chose the path that led to pain before the cross that led to glory.

May His cross always be on our hearts as we enter into this most holy of weeks.

Our eyes are lifted to the wondrous love you have provided and we give thanks

for your never ending love for us. In His powerful name we pray. Amen.
