CONFIRMATION CLASSES

In last week’s issue of the COMPASS, it was announced that the Confirmation classes for this year will be on May 1 and 2nd -  Friday evening and then Saturday workshop.

If your loved one is in Grade 8 or older, or you are an adult, you are encouraged to reach out to Rev. Kerry if interested in being part of this year’s confirmation class.

In that announcement we asked if anyone wanted to be a mentor/sponsor for a confirmand.  A question was asked, what does the mentor/sponsor do?

Answer:  mentor/sponsor accompanies the confirmand on their journey as they explore faith, life, and religion, and the mentor/sponsor develops a supportive and encouraging relationship. They can meet several times or on an as needed basis. Often, and it is encouraged, the mentor/sponsor and confirmand meet in a local coffee shop where you discuss any questions the confirmand has after they have attended the workshops.

Please note: mentors/sponsors will need to have a police vulnerability sector check completed.  Any questions or concerns, reach out to Rev. Kerry.

OUT OF THE COLD

Holy Trinity St. Stephen's Memorial Anglican Church, near the corner of Southdale and Wellington is being supported by Arc Aid Street Mission in order to open its doors to people seeking a warm place to stay.

From February 17th to April 15th, 30 to 50 people will be offered a secure place to sleep and some light nutrition from 9 pm to 8 am. This initiative is possible in part to increased funding from the City of London.

Calvary's benevolent fund will provide financial support for this project. In addition, there is a need for personal hygiene products and light snacks, which will be offered to those seeking the shelter.

If you feel that you can support this endeavor, a box has been placed at the back of the sanctuary for the following:

- tooth brush, toothpaste, deodorant, soap

- feminine hygiene products

- granola bars, oatmeal cups, fruit cups

- hats, scarves, gloves

Thank you for supporting our unhoused neighbours who face the hardships of a cold winter.

LONDON KID'S COMMUNITY GOSPEL CHOIR

The last two Compasses included the notice about the exhibit of Black History and the United Church of Canada. The dates for the exhibition at First St. Andrew's United Church and Pearce William's Centre were listed. On Saturday, February 28th, the London Kid's Community Gospel Choir will be performing at First St. Andrew’s United Church. This Free evening is open to the whole family. It will be an evening of learning about this important part of history and celebrating with incredible music.

There will be an opportunity to make a freewill donation if you choose. There will be a reception afterwards and everyone is able to view the exhibit.

If you have questions, please reach out to children@fsaunited.com

 PSALM FOR THE WEEK

Psalm 121: 5 - 8 from the New Revised Standard Version updated edition

            The Lord is your keeper;

                the Lord is your shade at your right hand.

            The sun shall not strike you by day

                nor the moon by night.

            The Lord will keep you from all evil;

                he will keep your life.

            The Lord will keep

                your going out and your coming in

                from this time and forevermore.

 PRAYER OF THE WEEK

             God of every detail of every day,

            your creation is surrounded by your daily care.

            Enable us to be mindful of your presence so we

            can be less fearful and more grateful from the

            rising to the setting to the sun. Amen.
