Calvary Compass – November 25, 2025 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca

Dear Friends of Calvary,

This coming Sunday, November 30th, we will be celebrating communion and a benevolent offering will be taken.  It is also the first Sunday of Advent.

A Mini Bazaar will take place after the church service on Sunday, December 7th. The items for sale will be craft articles, preserves and some frozen foods. Please bring your own bags and also cash money. We don't do debit or credit.

We are continuing to have Coffee Hour after church services every Sunday even when it is not in the announcements. You are always welcome to come down to the lower hall for some refreshments and conversation.

The Catalyst was emailed to everyone last Friday. If you did not receive your copy, please let Kim know in the office. If you would like a printed copy, there are copies available at the back of the sanctuary.

JAZZ VESPERS

Calvary is looking for teams to prepare and serve the meal for Jazz Vespers quartet in the church parlour before each concert on the first Wednesday of each month. Their food needs are simple, and it's a great opportunity to get to know some marvellous musicians, If you think you would like to be involved contact Karen Butt at 519-868-8367 or Kim in the church office.

CHILDREN PARTICIPATING IN SUNDAY’S ANTHEM

On Sunday, Carly, Maggs, Pearl and Peniel added some percussion to the anthem.

MITTEN TREE

The Christmas trees in the sanctuary will be going up the week of November 24th. We will be collecting new hats, mittens, gloves, scarves and socks for the London Community Chaplaincy. You can start bringing these items Sunday, November 30th, the first Sunday of Advent.

MUSIC AT MIDDAY ORGAN RECITALS

Starting on Thursday, November 27th at 12 noon, Calvary will be hosting four Midday Organ Recitals. They have been organized by Dr. Wayne Caroll. Each week will have a different organist and each concert will be about 40 minutes in length. This week features Dr. Wayne Carroll on organ and Ken Baldwin on trumpet. Monies raised will go to Calvary's Benevolent Fund.

PALESTINIAN LAND EXERCISE

Wesley-Knox United Church is hosting a Palestinian Land Exercise on Sunday, November 29 at 3:30pm. The exercise is similar to the Blanket Exercise offered by Kairos Canada and other religious organizations. It is designed for Participants to experience directly the displacement of Palestinians ongoing in the West Bank. Attendance is free. Everyone is welcome.

LONDON COMMUNITY CHAPLAINCY

As mentioned in our recent Catalyst, the London Community Chaplaincy is holding a Christmas Parade through Southdale and Limberlost Communities on Saturday, December 13, bringing stocking stuffers to the families. If you would like to support the Parade by providing small items such as chocolate treats, candy canes, granola bars or small bags of potato chips for the stockings, this would be greatly appreciated. Please bring the items to the church with you. There will be a collection box in the hallway close to the other donation boxes.

Thank you again for your support of the Chaplaincy.

PSALM FOR THE WEEK

Psalm 72: 5-7 from the New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition translation

May he live while the sun endures

and as long as the moon, throughout all generations.

May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass,

like showers that water the earth.

In his days may righteousness flourish

and peace abound, until the moon is no more.

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK

Spirit of the Living God,

We give thanks for your presence in our daily lives

and for those we hold near and dear to us.

Through the blessings you have bestowed on us,

we offer our humble praise and gratitude.

May your blessing of peace, joy, love and hope be upon us always. Amen.

Prayer focus for this week:   Those that are feeling lonely.
