Calvary Compass – November 18, 2025 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca
Dear Friends of Calvary,
Old Man Winter is really trying to tell us something with two big snowfalls within a week. Hopefully in the interim, you have been able to get your outdoor furniture put away and your snow tires on. Those reluctant and soggy leaves may have to wait until Spring.
This Saturday, November 22nd, a Memorial for Dick Kussner, will be held at 11:00 am in the sanctuary with a reception afterwards in the lower hall. Visitation with the family will be Friday, November 21st at A. Millard George Funeral Home from 7 - 9 pm.
Worship Services are all live-streamed:
November 23 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwZlwTobucg

Thank you to Wayne for putting new wheels on the kitchen carts so they no longer move haphazardly or lock up. It wasn’t a simple switch but Wayne used his skills and ingenuity to get the carts functional again.

REFUGEE SPONSORING
A group within the congregations of our Shared Ministry are interested in sponsoring a refugee family from Afghanistan, currently in Pakistan. All costs will be paid by their Afghanti relatives currently in London, and sponsorship would be under the United Church of Canada's office for refugee support. Our responsibility would be to help "on the ground" in London to secure housing and furnishings, school and health-care registration, language training, practical advice, and , mostly of all, a friendly welcome. According to the UCC refugee sponsorship web page, refugee numbers worldwide are the greatest since of the end of World War II. If you might be interested in being part of an oversight group for this mission, contact Karen Butt, co-chair of Calvary's Outreach Committee, kbbutt@gmail.com or Mike Beck of Wesley-Knox United Church at beck23md03@gmail.com " I was a stranger and you welcomed me" - Matthew 25: 23.
JAZZ VESPERS
Calvary is looking for teams to prepare and serve the meal for Jazz Vespers quartet in the church parlour before each concert on the first Wednesday of each month. Their food needs are simple, and it's a great opportunity to get to know some marvellous musicians, If you think you would like to be involved contact Karen Butt at 519-868-8367 or Kim in the church office.

ANNIVERSARY SUNDAY
Sunday, November 16th was Calvary’s 135th Anniversary Sunday. Thank you to Rev. Dr. Anne Beattie-Stokes who led our worship service. PSALM FOR THE WEEK
Psalm 24: 7-10 from the New International Version translation
Lift up your heads, you gates;
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
the Lord mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates;
lift them up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is he, this King of glory?
The Lord Almighty—
he is the King of glory.
PRAYER FOR THE WEEK
O God, creator of all things;
we worship you, we glorify you, we give you thanks
for your great love. Abide with us in our daily living
and guide us in the ways of peace and justice for all.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Prayer focus this week: Those waiting for diagnosis or surgery. May they be comforted and be at peace.
