Calvary Compass – July 7, 2026 - Calvary United Church, www.calvaryuc.ca
Dear Friends of Calvary,
Thank you to Bill Butt for being our worship leader for the last two Sundays. Bill's photos and descriptions for the Land Acknowledgement enhance our understanding of our Indigenous neighbours. The photos of the writers of our hymns and a little history about them make us appreciate the hymns since we know more about their history.
Rev. Kerry is away this week - July 5th -10th. He will be back at Calvary on Sunday, July 12th. If you have a Pastoral Emergency, please call Kim and she will contact the minister covering.
On Sunday, July 12th there will be a baptism and we will welcome new members. We hope you can join us for this joyous occasion.
Kim Knowles is back. For the summer, the church office will be open Tuesday -Thursday from 9:00 am to 12 Noon - closed on Mondays and Fridays. The office will be closed on Tuesday, July 21st.
The next edition of the Compass will be Tuesday, July 28th. In August, the dates are August 11th and 25th.
Thank you to all who completed the Shared Ministry Survey. Your comments will help the Ministers and Coordinating Committee in their assessment of the Shared Ministry Plan.
The next time that you see Ken McLagan, Praise Soewu, Tim Lindsay and Heather Meatherall, please thank them for working on the live-stream Sunday mornings especially since it is very hot up in the balcony where the equipment is.

EARTHQUAKE RELIEF FOR VENEZUELA
Until July 14, the Canadian Government will match dollar for dollar, up to $2 million, all donations made to help send relief to Venezuelans following the two devastating earthquakes they experienced on June 24. The Canadian Foodgrains Bank, as a member of the Humanitarian Coalition, is asking for our support. As of June 30th, close to 2,000 people have perished, close to 11,000 people have been injured, and over 51,000 people are still missing. Unfortunately, the death toll keeps rising and the risk of disease and starvation increases.
Online donations can be made at foodgrainsbank.ca/donate/venezuela
Thank you for your support!
CHAMPION
The group will meet this summer every other Wednesday afternoon starting Wednesday, July 8th. (July 8th, 22nd, August 5th and 19th) CHAMPION will return to weekly meetings on September 2nd.
PRAYER TEAM
We know that prayer is essential, for ourselves and for those we care about. Calvary's prayer team prays for those who share with them their concerns, sorrows, joys, and gratitude. Your requests are kept confidential and only shared with the prayer team, if that is your desire. Please contact Rev. Kerry with your prayer requests. Your requests may also be left in the Prayer Box on the credenza at the Ridout Street entrance in the sanctuary (anonymously, if desired). You are also invited to join the Prayer Team and if interested speak to Kerry or Kris Goodman about becoming a member of this important work for our congregation.
PRIDE PARADE
The Pride Parade is happening Sunday, July 19th. Those who wish to be part of the parade should contact Rev. Kerry for more details and to let him know that you are participating. There will also be a trailer for those who wish to ride in it instead of walking with the United Churches of London group.
MEETINGS THIS WEEK:
* CHAMPION - Wednesday - 1:00 - 3:30 pm - this week
* Bible Study - there is no bible study this week
BIBLE STUDY
Bible Study will resume on Thursday, July 16th.
PSALM FOR THE WEEK:
Psalm 145: 8-13 Common English Bible translation
“The Lord is merciful and compassionate,
very patient, and full of faithful love.
The Lord is good to everyone and everything;
God’s compassion extends to all his handiwork!”
All that you have made gives thanks to you, Lord;
all your faithful ones bless you!
They speak of the glory of your kingdom;
they talk all about your power,
to inform all human beings about God’s power
and the majestic glory of God’s kingdom.
Your kingdom is a kingship that lasts forever;
your rule endures for all generations.
The Lord is trustworthy in all that he says,
faithful in all that he does.
PRAYER FOR THE WEEK:
Gracious God, your never-ending love encompasses all of your creation.
Enable our thanks and praise to liberate us from our own self-made prisons.
Raise us up in the power of the living spirit, so that we may
free others from fear, violence, and injustice. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Prayer focus: For those who reside in countries where the government is oppressive and not working for the betterment of all people.
