LONDON COMMUNITY CHAPLAINCY

The Outreach Committee are collecting non-perishables for the London Community Chaplaincy throughout the entire year with the exception of July and August. The need is breakfast items such as boxed cereals, oatmeal, peanut butter, juice boxes and nut free school snacks ( eg. granola bars and fruit cups). These will be distributed to the Southdale and Limberlost Chaplaincies. Thank you to Bonnie and Brian McNichol for getting these donations to the chaplaincies. Thank you to everyone for their generosity.

VACATION HOUSE CHURCH

You are invited to attend the Vacation House Church, an experimental worship service similar to what the early followers of Jesus would have known. We will meet Wednesdays during June, July and August at the former Fairmont United Church, 29 Tweedsmuir Avenue (off Hale Street, south of Trafalgar). The service begins at 7:00 pm and is more participatory than you would normally experience on Sunday morning, although we do pray, sing, read scripture, hear and reflect upon the scripturally based message. An " Agape Meal" ( a communion service led by lay folk) is shared at each service. Come, join us for this hour-long respite in the midst of your busy week, beginning June 3. For more information, contact Mary Dillon at (519-878-7134) or mcdillon@rogetso.com

PLANNING YOUR SUMMER VACATION?

As you plan your summer vacations or stay-cation, please also consider your church donations. The building does not go on vacation, and your support sustain our ministry year-round. You can give through Pre-Authorized Donations (PAR), Post-dated cheques or through CanadaHelps. Thank you for including Calvary in your summer plans.

PRAYER TEAM

We know prayer is essential for ourselves, and for those we care about. Calvary's prayer team prays for those who share with them their concerns, sorrows, joys and gratitude. Your requests are kept confidential and only shared with the prayer team, if that is your desire. Please contact Rev. Kerry with your prayer requests. Your requests may also be left in the Prayer Box on the credenza at the Ridout entrance to the sanctuary ( anonymously, if desired.) You are also invited to join the Prayer Team and if interested speak to Rev. Kerry or Kris Goodman about becoming a member of this important work for our congregation.

BROADVIEW RENEWAL

Broadview is the magazine that represents the United Church of Canada.

Previously called The United Church Observer, The New Outlook and The Christian Guardian, Broadview is the fourth and current name in the publication’s history. Now celebrating 197 years, the publication remains committed to highlighting stories about spirituality, justice, and ethical living, as well as sharing news from and about The United Church of Canada.

The Annual Rate is $30 and is due by Friday, June 5th. Please make your cheque payable to Calvary United Church and we will send one total cheque to Broadview.

BLESSING OF THE FIELDS

The Blessing of the Fields in support of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and the Caradoc Growing Project will be held on Wednesday, June 3 at 7 pm.

The Blessing, followed by a short business meeting, will be held at Breniar Farms, 7215 Parkhouse Dr. Melbourne. The Rev. Tim Archibald of Oakridge Presbyterian Church will ask for God's support to ensure a good harvest of crops planted by the McCracken and Bolton families. Crops grown on these allotments will be sold and the profits used to help feed our hungry neighbours around the world.

All are welcome.

PSALM FOR THE WEEK

Psalm 104: 24, 27-30 from the New International Version Translation

How many are your works, Lord!

    In wisdom you made them all;

    the earth is full of your creatures.

All creatures look to you

    to give them their food at the proper time.

When you give it to them,

    they gather it up;

when you open your hand,

    they are satisfied with good things.

When you hide your face,

    they are terrified;

when you take away their breath,

    they die and return to the dust.

When you send your Spirit,

    they are created,

    and you renew the face of the ground.

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK

God, you are the fount of every blessing.

We look to you not simply for our own needs,

but so all of humanity might have daily bread.

Teach us every day to hunger for your justice,

your peace, your understanding.  May your

world be renewed by our love for you

in all things.  Amen.

Prayer focus:  For cancer patients. May they experience God’s healing presence, comfort, and love.
